How to Make New Habits that Stick

Tips

We all need to read this one and it is so practical for most every aspect of life! If I could sum it up, it would be you get what you repeat. Little gains each day lead to a big impact. I think this is where most of us go wrong, we wait until the perfect moment when we can accomplish the big goal. Why not take it bit by bit and get started right away on that first bit? Now of course I want to focus this in on nutrition habits, but feel free to apply this to all parts of your life.

One reason good habits are so hard to achieve is the reward is long term and not felt immediately. Look at implementing positive nutrition changes. We won’t always notice the health benefits until weeks-months after starting the good habit.

Contrast this to a bad habit like eating fresh baked sweets. You IMMEDIATELY have the reward of it tastes sooo good. Immediate rewards are repeated. Remember Pavlov’s Law with the dogs? You can overcome this by small tiny steps instead of one huge goal that feels unachievable.

  • Remember start with small bite that works up to your end goal
  • Have someone hold you accountable
  • Make it easy to implement
  • Add it to something you already do
  • Make visual cues every time you do your habit
  • Put a healthy reward to it
  • Really Important: One mishap doesn’t ruin your goal. It is repeating the mishap until you are spiraling out of control that will ruin it. If the mistake is made, allow grace and get right back at it!
